Marvin Ryder, a professor of over 40 years, has sat on numerous boards including Hamilton Place, Hamilton Convention Centre and Copps Coliseum and was Chair of the Transition Board for the new City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Health Sciences Board of Directors. He has also written more than seventy case studies illustrating marketing, business strategy, and entrepreneurship problems, half of which have been published in leading Canadian marketing texts including case studies on Porsche, Union Gas, Crayola and Molson Breweries. Today, he is most recognized for nearly 250 appearances annually on television (CTV, CBC and Global) radio (Newstalk 1010, CKTB 610AM and CFPL 980AM) and in newspapers (National Post, Toronto Star, Globe and Mail and the Hamilton Spectator) commenting on business issues of the day.

Norm Schleehahn has been the City of Hamilton’s Director of Economic Development since March of 2020. He leads one of the most respected and accomplished Economic Development Offices in Canada whose mission is to serve as a catalyst for continued economic growth, job creation, and revitalization in Hamilton.
An economic development professional for over 30 years, Norm has built a career working with a vast range of investments- from the smallest startups to the largest Fortune 100 corporations. During this time, his work has involved the facilitation of thousands of new jobs in Hamilton and tens of millions square feet of new and redeveloped space in the City of Hamilton.
Alongside his day-to-day successes, Norm has also been a strong proponent of giving back to his profession throughout his career. He is a Past President of the Economic Developers Council of Ontario and served as a Director on the board of the Economic Developers Association of Canada. Currently, he is an active member of the Washington, D.C. based International Economic Development Council - namely part of their international team that evaluates and provides accreditations to best practice economic development organizations across North America.
Norm holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University in Hamilton and is accredited by both the Economic Development Association of Canada and the International Economic Development Council as a certified economic development professional. He, his wife Marianne, their three children and rambunctious cocker spaniel, Jax, are all proud to call Hamilton home.

The City of Hamilton and the HDAA will be holding a Waste Education Webinar focused on waste management in multi-residential properties.
The webinar will focus on the Multi-Residential system in the City of Hamilton, common recycling mistakes and materials that can be provided to help residents. There will be a Q&A period at the end of the presentation for any questions.

Letter of Instruction for High-Rise Apartments
Hamilton’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a Letter of Instruction (LOI) requiring all persons responsible for High-rise Apartment Buildings and High-rise Condominium Buildings, with 12 or more storeys in the City of Hamilton to adhere to certain COVID-19 safety requirements to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including having a COVID-19 safety plan in place by July 17th, 2021. https://www.hamilton.ca/coronavirus/reducing-covid-19-spread-in-apartments-and-condominiums
Hamilton Public Health Services & HDAA is hosting an Information Session to support operators with implementing their COVID-19 safety plan requirements.
This session will include a review the Letter of Instruction requirements and enforcement framework. There will be dedicated time for owners/operators to ask questions to public health and/or municipal law enforcement representatives.

Licensing Town Hall
The City of Hamilton is once again discussing the Licensing regime and whether it should be implemented. The Planning Committee is scheduled to discuss licensing at their July 6th meeting, should it not be delayed for a later time.
The HDAA is continuing the fight against licensing and is sending out a call to our membership to help us in our fight. At our next webinar scheduled for June 22nd we will be holding a Licensing Town Hall to provide updates on licensing to our members as well as provide members the opportunity to ask questions and learn how they can become more involved.
We will also discuss the renoviction issue that has been spotlighted in the City with tenants proposing that another bylaw be drafted to deal with them or to incorporate them into the licensing bylaw. This will affect all landlords whether small or large and it is important that we make our voices heard on this matter as well.

COVID-19 Education Session for Multi-Unit Dwellings
If you own, operate, or live in a multi-unit residential building, it is important to keep yourself, staff and tenants safe in this time of COVID-19. Landlords, property managers, and tenants all have an important role to play to prevent and limit the spread of COVID-19 in condominiums, apartment buildings, and other residential units.
The HDAA and Hamilton Public Health invites you to attend a COVID-19 Education Session for Multi-Unit Dwellings this coming Wednesday May 19th, 2021 from 2:00pm-3:30pm.
The session will cover infection control, landlord and tenant responsibilities, outbreak management and supports available for operators to help protect staff and tenants. There will also be a Q&A period at the end.

Fire Safety & Standards Webinar
The HDAA is excited to host a webinar in conjunction with the Hamilton Fire Department on Fire Safety and Standards at our next free member-only webinar.
